The Word - May 29, 2012 - LIVING IN TIME WITH ETERNITY IN MIND
"For no one can lay any foundation other than the
one we already have, which is Jesus Christ. Anyone who builds on that
foundation may use a variety of materials, gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay or
straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work the builder
has done." (I Corinthians 3:11-13).
The most
difficult task we face with living the Christian life is trying to deal with
the tension of both living this life to the fullest here in time and at the
same time facing the fact that we are really pilgrims and strangers, for this
is not our real home.
The hard truth is that if we are really Christ's disciples, we eagerly accept
the fact and learn to live every day in the world with eternity in mind.
Notice that each of us individually will be held accountable for our choices as
we decide how to structure our lives as the children of the most High God. The
critical question is: what will the fire reveal?
Finally, if we build wisely, the reward will be great. Our home in heaven is
our motivation and destiny. When we live with the light of heaven burning
brightly in our eyes, we will experience a passion and purpose that will
glorify our Lord. Someone has said, "We have been called to live
in this life for a time we cannot see, except through the eyes of faith."
Prayer: "Father, help me to live here in time with the light of
eternity burning in my heart! In Jesus name. Amen
