The Word - Jan. 11, 2007 - (From the Archives)

"God exalted Christ and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all" (Ephesians 1:22,23).

Just as the head controls the human body, so Christ governs His body, the church (cf. 1 Cor. 12: 12-31). By His Spirit and His Word He supplies all the resources the church needs to function to His glory, and in that way He guarantees that His purposes will be fulfilled. The church is in fact, "the fullness of Him who fills all in all."

The implication is that the all-sufficient, all-powerful, and utterly supreme Christ is in a sense, incomplete, not ion His nature, but in the degree to which His glory is seen in the world.

So the question for today is: Does your life complement Jesus Christ? Do you "let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (Matt. 5:16)? As a child of God you and I have every spiritual resource to do so, so don't let anything hold you back (Hebrews 12:1,2).
