The Word - Jan. 04, 2007 - The Fellowship Of God's Son

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing.....In Him also, we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to His purpose who works all things according to the counsel of His will" (Ephesians 1:3, 11).

John MacArthur tells the story of a wealthy man who searched for many years for his runaway son. One day as he was preparing to board a train, he spotted a man in ragged clothes begging money. When the man approached him, he discovered it was his long lost son. The son asked if he could spare a dollar, but the father cried out, "A dollar? You are my son...everything I have is yours!"

When I read that story it reminded me of so many Christians who are ignorant of their spiritual resources. They are children of the King, yet live like spiritual paupers.

Paul repeatedly emphasizes our inheritance as believers. Colossians 2:10 declares that in Christ "You have been made complete." Peter adds that God's "divine power has granted us everything pertaining to life and godliness" (2 Peter 1:3). As a Christian, you possess every spiritual resource you need to fulfill God's will for your life. The key to progress and victory in your spiritual life is learning to apply what you already have in Christ. So this day, praise God for His abundant spiritual resources and ask Him to help you apply them with wisdom.
