The Word - April 11, 2012 - OUR SPIRITUAL
FOOD
"Your
Words were found, and I ate them. And your word was to me the joy and rejoicing
of my heart, for I bear your name, O Lord God Almighty! The Lord replied, 'If
you turn to me, I will restore you so you can continue to serve me. If you
speak my words that are worthy, you will be my spokesman. You are to influence
them; do not let them influence you" (Jeremiah 15:16-19).
If we fail to eat physical food we would starve and eventually die; but more
important than physical food is the spiritual food we find in God's Word.
Without feeding on the Word of God on a daily basis, we will soon dry up
spiritually. When we eat the right spiritual food, we will be strong and
prepared for what the Lord wants us to do.
Peter reminds us that, "As newborn babes, desire
the sincere milk of the Word" (1 Peter 2:2). Ezekiel was told
by the Lord to eat the scroll, then speak to the house of Israel. He was
prepared to follow the Lord's instructions, because He listened to what God
told him.In our Word for today, Jeremiah said, "Your
words were found and I ate them."
We understand of course, when he speaks of eating the Word, he refers to
reading, listening to and assimilating God's Word. Jesus reminds us in Matthew
4:4 that, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that
proceeds out of the mouth of God."
Dear friends, we need strength to stand strong in the face of the enemy of our
souls! Stay in the Word of the Lord and become strong in the power of His
might!
